Success rates for AI and embryo transfer vary based on multiple factors, including donor and recipient fertility, heat detection accuracy, semen or embryo quality, nutrition, health status, and overall management.

In general, AI conception rates commonly range from 50–70%, while embryo transfer pregnancy rates often range from 45–75% under good management conditions. We are always happy to help fine-tune your program to maximize results and improve consistency over time.

The minimum recommended interval before breeding or transfer is 45 days post-calving; however, best results are typically achieved at 60 days or later. This allows adequate time for uterine involution, recovery, and a return to normal reproductive cycles, which supports improved conception rates and long-term reproductive success.

Pregnancy can typically be confirmed by ultrasound as early as 28–30 days after breeding or 21-23 days after embryo transfer. Fetal sex can first be determined around 55 days of gestation.

Donors do not need to stay at our facility. While we do offer on-site donor housing, donors may also be hauled in for scheduled procedures such as oocyte collection, embryo flushing, or artificial insemination. If preferred, we can provide synchronization and superovulation protocols to be completed on your farm. For clients who want a simplified experience, we are also happy to house donors at our facility and manage the entire process from start to finish.

Drop off or haul in timing depends on the type of embryo production and whether the donor will be boarded at our facility.

• If a donor will be boarded for stimulation or multiple collections/flushes, regular drop-off times are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After-hours or weekend drop-offs can be arranged as needed to accommodate your schedule.

• For conventional embryo flushing, donors are typically flushed on Wednesdays and Fridays. If FSH injections and breeding are being performed at home, we will provide a protocol designed to synchronize donors for these collection days.

• Beginning late February 2026, we will be open for IVF collections. IVF donors are typically collected on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at our facility, though scheduling may vary by season.

The average yield is typically 12–16 oocytes per collection, but this can vary widely. Factors such as breed, age, and individual fertility all influence oocyte numbers. In some cases, we have collected 120 oocytes in a single aspiration, and certain Bos indicus (eared cattle) breeds may produce even higher numbers.

Oocyte collection or oocyte pick-up (OPU) usually takes about 15-20 minutes.

The donor is given an epidural and then oocytes are collected via ultrasound guided aspiration of the follicles on her ovaries. The contents of the collection vial are then searched under a microscope to find the collected oocytes, which are then counted and graded.

Collection frequency depends on whether hormonal stimulation is used. If a donor is not being stimulated with FSH prior to collection, she can typically be collected as often as once per week. When FSH is used, collections are generally performed every two weeks to allow for appropriate response and recovery.

Yes, this is one of the major advantages of IVF over conventional embryo flushing. In most cases, donors can be collected until 4–5 months of gestation, although this can vary depending on the individual and whether the ovaries remain safely accessible.

From the time of oocyte collection, the IVF process typically takes 8-9 days. For example, if a donor is collected on a Tuesday, embryos are ready for fresh transfer or freezing on Wednesday of the following week. Occasionally, some embryos may develop more slowly and be suitable for freezing on the following day.

On average, 3-6 embryos are produced per IVF cycle, but this can vary anywhere from none to 15 or more. Embryo numbers are influenced by factors such as breed, donor fertility, semen quality and fertility, and whether FSH is used prior to collection. Individual donors tend to remain relatively consistent in their production over time; however, illness, stressful events, and poor-quality semen can negatively impact results..

The number of semen straws required depends on the method used. For IVF, only one straw is needed per cycle, and depending on semen type and quality, a single straw may be used to fertilize oocytes from 3–10 donors.

For conventional embryo flushing, 2–5 straws of semen are typically used per flush. More semen is often required when using sexed semen, as each straw contains fewer viable sperm which have a shorter lifespan within the donor’s reproductive tract.

Embryos are graded based on microscopic evaluation of their quality and development.

• Grade 1 embryos are the highest quality and offer the best chance for establishing and maintaining a pregnancy.

• Grade 2 embryos have one or more minor defects or imperfections. These embryos generally have lower pregnancy rates and a slightly increased risk of early pregnancy loss, with these differences being more pronounced in IVF embryos compared to conventionally flushed embryos. For this reason, we typically avoid using Grade 2 IVF embryos; if they are used, we recommend transferring them fresh rather than freezing. Grade 2 embryos produced through conventional flushing may be frozen and transferred with acceptable success rates.

• Grade 3 embryos are the lowest quality and are generally not frozen or transferred.

At this time, we do not offer reverse semen sorting at our facility. As our laboratory continues to expand, we hope to provide this service in the future. Currently, the best option is to use sexed semen that is sorted at the time of collection, as this provides better fertility and results in higher embryo production in the IVF lab.

Yes. We offer storage for both semen and embryos, and we can ship each domestically using our vapor shippers to ensure safe temperature control during transport.

No, we do not collect or freeze bull semen. However, we are happy to provide recommendations and referrals based on your breeding goals and help you determine the best option for your program.
